Since 1997, Off limits – the international festival for cross-over performing arts – has been held biannually in Dortmund and in the Ruhr Area. The festival is well known for its creative programmes and innovative symposiums. Despite large financial cuts, off limits is realised in a condensed version between August 27 and 30, 2009. Festival creations and guest performances are staged, showing a vast range of creativity and ideas.
Off limits combines theoretical discourse with artistic action. There will be space for individual and specific views upon international performing arts.
In creating “Datcha live – strangers in my garden”, we have a garden-community as the playground for dance and drama as well as installations. Moreover, we present the British A2company with their groundbreaking production “The Future of Death”, as well as a debate on participation of audience participation as part of the authoring process within and with the arts. We also welcome the director of the Jewish Theater New York and journalist, Tuvia Tenenbom, as our observer in residence.
